Dear Junior Lifeguard Families,
As you are aware, COVID-19 is a major public safety concern and has been impacting our lives in multiple ways, and unfortunately, the beach communities here in Delaware are no exception. Due to the recent rise in positive COVID-19 cases locally, in surrounding beach communities, and beyond, I regret to inform you that I am cancelling our Junior Lifeguard Program for the 2020 season.
Although our Junior Lifeguards are an important part of the Bethany Beach Patrol, this decision was made after consulting with our Town Administration as well as Local and State Officials. During the last few weeks, we have been preparing for the start of the program anticipating that the State of Delaware would be moving into Phase 3 of it's reopening plan. Over the last few days, the Governor of Delaware has said that the State will remain in Phase 2 indefinitely. All things considered, I believe that this decision is best considering the health and safety of our Junior Lifeguard families.
Melaney Heald will be working on refunds for families that have already registered and submitted their payments. It is my hope that we will be able to get back to some type of normalcy in time, and that we will be in a position to continue our program next summer. I deeply appreciate the participation and support that we have received from all of the families who have participated in our program over the years, and we look forward to reuniting next year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have regarding this decision. Thank you and take care!
